Hair transplantation is done under local anaesthesia. The person is fully awake during the whole procedure and can listen music, read a magazine or watch television as the procedure is being done.
Total procedure may take 4-6 hours depending upon the number of hair to be transplanted.
Patient can take a tea /coffee break in between the procedure. The entire procedure is nearly painless, as we use finest of the needles and use vibrators to counter needle associated pain. After few fine injections , the whole of the area becomes numb and patient do not appreciate pain during the procedure. We have a unique system of patient's feedback on pain perception. We ask the patient to grade the pain that patient felt on a scale of 0 – 10, where '0' is no pain and '10' is maximum pain. We also ask how much pain patient was expecting. Usually the answer which we get is that there expectation was 9-10 but the pain they had was on the scale of just 1-2 and that too of initial few injections. Postoperative discomfort is usually well controlled by normal oral tablets.
The person usually goes home the same evening and can go back to work the next day.
There can be some swelling over the forehead which usually subside in 3-4 days.
